Loop 13 Trail Work – Westwoods: Upper Moose Hill Road Entrance
We walked this Loop last month and found a couple of bridges that need elevation, graffiti in the Colonial Caves that needs overpainting, muddy sections of several trails that need corduroy, and several unauthorized trails that need to be permanently closed. We also plan to reroute a long section of the Green Rectangle Trail away from the edge of the Great Harbor Brook wetlands, and need to investigate, flag, and (if time permits) create/blaze a new route. As some of the unauthorized trails we plan to close are likely kept open by bikers, we encourage riders to join us. Paul will be sure we have blaze materials and nails as well as the paint for oversraying the graffiti. We’ll need one or two chainsaws and hand tools (a pick or madock, splitting maul, etc.) for the bridge and corduroy work. Surveyor’s tape, hand tools (loppers, clippers, etc.) and a rake will be needed to clear and relocate the trail. We’ll meet at the Upper Moose Hill entrance to Westwoods at 10AM. Parking is limited, so if you can’t find parking at the trail head, head down on Lower Road and walk up the road or through the connecting trail. [est 2 – 3 hours]
Heavy rain will usually cancel any of these work parties, so if you have questions about the schedule, please feel free to contact me stewardship@guilfordlandtrust.org or Paul Proulx pauljproulx@comcast.net on the morning of each event. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house. Paul also carries his cell phone (203-687-7756) on these events, so if you’re late and want people to wait, give him a call.
