Loop 14 Trail Work – Westwoods: Lower Moose Hill Road Entrance
October 17 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
Based on the work we’re planning, we’ve changed the meeting location to the Lower Moose Hill Road entrance, across the street from Landon’s Way. The work we’re planning to do is:
— Reroute a super muddy area on sections of Violet Circle to higher ground.
— Reroute on the Yellow Square south of Green Rectangle which makes the detour the blazed trail, closing the muddy section of the original trail.
— Close an unauthorized trail on Yellow Circle where it meets Yellow Square.
— Dropping a small grove of dead but standing beeches.
— Trimming overgrown Mt. Laurel (at the Yellow/Green cross trail)
— Clear the overgrown section of the Yellow Circle at the (former) powerline crossing.
— Additional paint needed to cover graffiti (intersection of Yellow Circle and Yellow Square)
— Move the Trail Entrance pole at the Upper Moose Hill Road entrance closer to the road.
— Add a cedar pole to mark the intersection of the Red Triangle and Violet Circle. Additional blazing posts would benefit sections of the Red Triangle and Violet Circle where these trails cross under the powerline clearings.
— Blazing is needed along the Red Triangle and Violet Circle.
We don’t expect to get this all done on Saturday (!).
Paul will be bringing blazing materials and graffiti paint. And we’ll ask Patrick Perdu to bring the trimmer for trail clearing. We’ll also have cedar posts and a post hole digger. Multiple chainsaws will be useful. Please bring along the usual hammers, clippers, and loppers to support work you’d like to help with. A rake or leaf blower would also be helpful.
Hope to see you on Saturday morning!
