Dudley-Barrows Woods Trail Maintenance and Campsite Removal at Reene’s Way Cul-de-Sac

October 25, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

We have a number of trail issues to deal with today. The White Trail on the eastern side of Reene’s Way, is reported to be very overgrown well past the house at 87 Renee’s Way, and especially near the road. And we need to deconstruct a camp and tree fort that’s been built on the top of the ridge on the Red Circle Trail. Paul will have the weed-wacker with the ninja blade attachment and we’ll need people with hand clippers to trim back branches too high for the machine. And we’ll need at least one chain saw to deal with small trees and branches that will need to be removed. For the camp, it’s been reported that the campfire ring has already been removed. But taking down the fort will likely require a crew of at least four people. The skids are lashed with twine about ten feet up, hanging out over a steep slope – it will be tricky work. A pole saw or pole pruner could reach the lashings, and chain saw to cut large limbs that were installed and used to climb the tree. We’ll bring the newly built trail cart to help haul out the debris. If you can help, plan to meet at the Reene’s Way cut-de-sac at 10AM. [est 2 to 3 hours]

Heavy rain will usually cancel any of these work parties, so if you have questions about the schedule, please feel free to contact me stewardship@guilfordlandtrust.org or Paul Proulx pauljproulx@comcast.net on the morning of each event. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house. Paul also carries his cell phone (203-687-7756) on these events, so if you’re late and want people to wait, give him a call.
