Cutting/Clearing Trees and Spreading Woodchips – Spencer’s Creek
This is a continuation of the work from last month on the Sunset Creek Meadow. First off, we’ll be cutting up the trees Patrick Perdu dropped last month, and hauling the wood and branches to the road. This will allow us to mow the fields later this year. If time permits, we’ll also spread out two piles of wood chips to complete covering the area overrun with invasive mugwort. If you’d like to help with the trees, please bring along a chainsaw. A shovel, pitchfork and rake will be useful to spread the chips. if you have a good sized wheelbarrow or garden cart, please bring it too … it will be very useful for both hauling wood to the curb or moving wood chips. Please meet us at the Sunset Creek Road cul-de-sac (the road is directly across from the Cox School entrance on Three Mile Course). There’s plenty of parking at the cul-de-sac, and more along the road. [est 2 – 2-1/2 hours]
Heavy rain will usually cancel any of these work parties, so if you have questions about the schedule, please feel free to contact me stewardship@guilfordlandtrust.org or Paul Proulx pauljproulx@comcast.net on the morning of each event. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house. Paul also carries his cell phone (203-687-7756) on these events, so if you’re late and want people to wait, give him a call.
