Cutting Clearing Limbing Branches and Spreading Wood Chips at Spencer’s Creek
A follow-up for work over the summer on the Sunset Creek Meadow. First off, we’ll spread out a pile of wood chips to complete covering the area overrun with invasive mugwort. Then we’ll limb some of the standing trees on the eastern side of the meadow to make mowing over the winter both easier and more effective. If you’d like to help with the trees, please bring along a chainsaw. A shovel, pitchfork and rake will be useful to spread the chips. if you have a good sized wheelbarrow or garden cart, please bring it too … it will be very useful for moving wood chips further than can be tossed. Please meet us at the Sunset Creek Road cul-de-sac (the road is directly across from the Cox School entrance on Three Mile Course). There’s plenty of parking at the cut-de-sac, and more along the road. [est 2 hours]
Rain or significant snow will usually cancel any of these work parties, so if you have questions about the schedule, please feel free to contact me stewardship@guilfordlandtrust.org or Paul Proulx pauljproulx@comcast.net on the morning of each event. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house. Paul also carries his cell phone (203-687-7756) on these events, so if you’re late and want people to wait, give him a call.
