Major 33-acre Westwoods Acquisition

GLCT has purchased a 33.5-acre property in Westwoods for $635,000. This unexpected opportunity is a fitting way to celebrate the organization’s 60th anniversary. In July 2025, GLCT got word that it would receive $412,750 in grant funding for the project from the State of Connecticut Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Grant Program. Founded in 1965, GLCT has completed more than 30 acquisitions to protect the Westwoods area since 1967. The current acquisition, Westwoods West, has contained the well-loved Red Triangle and other trails for decades. It is located just north of the GLCT parking area on Moose Hill Road, across from Landon’s Way, and is recognizable for the power line cut that crosses it. The structures and wires have been removed, and the open area creates a unique and special habitat that is increasingly rare in Connecticut. The property is home to a number of threatened and endangered species. GLCT continues to raise funds to offset the cost of this acquisition.
