Loop 1 and 2 Stone and Bridge Work at Westwoods Sam Hill Road
On the advice of WWTC member Ellsworth Mathias, it was decided to rebuild the original stream crossing rather than construct a new bridge. So today, using nearby rocks, we expect to place stepping stones through a muddy section of the trail, then raise and add support to the current wooden bridge to keep it from being covered/move in high water levels. We’ll bring a wheelbarrow, a stone boat, and a selection of long and short pry-bars, and some pressure treated materials for adding bridge support. If you’d like to help, bring along whatever tools you think could be useful. We’ll decide at the trailhead what we’ll haul to the worksite. Please meet us at the Sam Hill Entrance to Westwoods. [est 2 – 3 hours]
Heavy rain will usually cancel any of these work parties, so if you have questions about the schedule, please feel free to contact me stewardship@guilfordlandtrust.org or Paul Proulx pauljproulx@comcast.net on the morning of each event. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house. Paul also carries his cell phone (203-687-7756) on these events, so if you’re late and want people to wait, give him a call.
