Trail Clearing and Blazing – Big Maple Preserve
Reports of poor blazing direct our work party to Big Maple this week. We’ve not been there for some time and expect that trail clearing will be needed too. So, beyond the hammer, nails and blazes, this will be a mix of chainsaw and hand work, so bring what equipment you’re comfortable using. If you’d like to help blaze, you should bring along a small tool belt with places for nails, a hammer and a stockpile of blazes. We’ll have both the blaze materials as well as nails. For trail clearing, Paul will bring the chainsaw, but bringing your own loppers or hand cutters will be useful. As the trail is fairly wet in places, we also recommend decent waterproof boots, along with the usual heavy gloves. If you’d like to help, we’re meeting on Granite Road, just across from the Granite Lake subdivision (just beyond Walden III) and parking on the generous shoulder along the road. Look for the long line of mailboxes and you’ll find us. [est 2 to 3 hours]
Rain or significant snow will usually cancel any of these work parties, so if you have questions about the schedule, please feel free to contact me stewardship@guilfordlandtrust.org or Paul Proulx pauljproulx@comcast.net on the morning of each event. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house. Paul also carries his cell phone (203-687-7756) on these events, so if you’re late and want people to wait, give him a call.
