Kampmeyer Preserve Acquisition

In November, GLCT purchased a 5-acre inholding for $95,919 from the estate of longtime Guilford resident Mary Sullivan. The property is located along the North Branford town line south of the former New Haven and Shoreline trolley.

The Kampmeyer Preserve was established in 1994 when GLCT supporter Preston Kampmeyer bequeathed his house (and cat) to GLCT. We used the proceeds from the house sale to buy a 40-acre parcel from the FDIC (GLCT Director Carolie Evans adopted the cat).

This parcel was the first of several acquisitions that make up this quiet preserve, which protects extensive wetlands, countless wildflowers and ferns, remarkable native azaleas, and the lovely Notch Hill Brook. GLCT is most grateful to the Sullivan family for allowing us to protect this important inholding.
