Neck River North – Seeding A New Meadow – Nortontown Road Entrance

Eversource clear-cut a large section of this small property last autumn, and our Property Steward has decided to assist nature by seeding this former forest floor with native grasses before foreign invasive plants advance into the area. The Land Trust has provided both seed and hand seed spreaders. and we’re looking for help in broadcasting the seed and lightly raking it into the forest litter. Light garden gloves and a hand rake are all that you’ll need to bring along. Please meet us at the Neck River North trail entrance, just north of 725 Nortontown Road and south of the intersection with Squaw Lane. [est 2 to 2-1/2 hours]

Heavy rain will usually cancel any of these work parties, so if you have questions about the schedule, please feel free to contact me stewardship@guilfordlandtrust.org or Paul Proulx pauljproulx@comcast.net on the morning of each event. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house. Paul also carries his cell phone (203-687-7756) on these events, so if you’re late and want people to wait, give him a call.
