Prepping Cardboard for Sheet Mulch at Spencer’s Creek

On both these afternoons we’ll be preparing cardboard so it can be used to control the mugwort on the Sunset Creek Meadow. Because the cardboard is buried under wood chips, we need to remove all the ‘add ons’ (mostly plastic tape and staples) so we don’t end up contaminating the soil. As we’re using 1000’s of square feet of cardboard, we can use all the help we can get. It’s the perfect job for high school students looking for community service time opportunities. If you’d like to help, please bring along a pair of gloves, a pocket knife or box cutter, and maybe a set of pliers. Meet us at the Sunset Creek Road cut-de-sac (the road is directly across from the Cox School entrance on Three Mile Course). There’s plenty of parking at the cut-de-sac, and more along the road. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house.
