More tree work reported at the January WWTC meeting. This work party will address numerous dead and decaying hemlocks reported on the Red Square and Rectangle trails, just south of the Dunk Rock Road entrance. In some ways this will be a re-enactment of the work that was done throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s, when over 10,000 dying Hemlocks were dropped in the Westwoods. We expect to resurrect the ‘Fred Richards Slingshot’ so that we can pull down rotted upper sections of some of these trees, and techniques used to fell long dead trees will be utilized when necessary. A lot of this will be chainsaw work but there will likely be more assistance needed in cleaning debris off the trails once the trees have been felled. As usual, we’ll have a saw and protective gear, but everyone needs to bring their own heavy gloves and hand tools. Please meet us at the lower Dunk Rock Road entrance to Westwoods. [est 2 to 3 hours]
Rain or significant snow will usually cancel any of these work parties, so if you have questions about the schedule, please feel free to contact me firstname.lastname@example.org or Paul Proulx email@example.com on the morning of each event. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house.
