Property steward Barb Russo reports that a wetland crossing on the eastern end of the White Trail is in desperate need of bridging, and over the summer Peter Johnson has constructed the two (a 16ft and 12ft) span that will replace something that’s almost disappeared into the wetlands. And while we have a work crew in the area, we’re also interested in clearing some overhanging and deadfall trees that hikers have been putting up with for quite some time. We need to haul these bridges in around 1/4mile, and need at least six strong people to accomplish this work. So If you’ve been planning to help the Trails Committee sometime this autumn, this is the time to do it! Plan to meet us at Peter Johnson’s home at 280 Sachem’s Head Road at 10AM, parking at the Nursery School parking lot, just north of his address. Work gloves and comfortable shoes are a must, but also bring along a chainsaw (and related equipment) to use f we have some extra time. [est 3 to 4 hours]
Rain will usually cancel any of these work parties, so if you have questions about the schedule, please feel free to contact me firstname.lastname@example.org or Paul Proulx email@example.com on the morning of each event. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house. Paul also carries his cell phone (203-687-7756) on these events, so if you’re late and want people to wait, give him a call.
