Mowing is for the Birds

A number of land trust properties are mowed rather than allowed to revert to forestland.

Unless the acquisition of a field or meadow called for another arrangement, mowing is postponed until after August 1 each year to protect grassland birds that nest on the ground, including eastern meadowlarks, upland sandpipers and bobolinks.
