SUMMARY:Loop 13 Trail Work  -  Westwoods Lower Moose Hill Road Entrance
DESCRIPTION:Today we’ll be hauling platforms down the Blue Rectangle Trail to construct a boardwalk across a perpetually muddy section of the Yellow Circle/Red Triangle Trail\, just east of Great Harbor Brook.  These are half-sections salvaged from the Clinton Marina last year\, modified by WWTC member Paul Sanders\, so they’ll be fairly easy to manage.  We plan to bring 4 of them down\, so extra help will be most appreciated.  All that you need to bring is a strong back and enthusiasm.  Work boots and good gloves are recommended.  Meet at the Lower Moose Hill Road entrance to Westwoods\, just across from Landon’s Way. Williams\, Ph.D.\, Chief Scientist\, Environmental Science and Forestry Department\, Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station.  \nAfter a short meeting led by the GLCT Board of Directors\, Dr. Williams will discuss forested residential communities and explain why increased habitat  connectivity is pivotal for the proliferation of a diverse array of native wildlife species and how this diversity ultimately benefits not only ecosystem health but also human health.

SUMMARY:Eastwoods Trail Work - East Bearhouse Hill Road Entrance
DESCRIPTION:Eastwoods-South property steward Ryan McEvoy reports a number if trail issues in his property report and we expect to address them all at this work party.  He noted muddy sections on both the Yellow and Green trails\, and we plan to evaluate these and add corduroy as needed.   There is also an unmarked woods road that he recommends blazing and adding to the trail network.  We plan to evaluate this\, and either add as a cross-trail\, or possibly close down the rocky/difficult/wet northern section of the Green completely.  If time permits\, we will also re-blaze the Blue Square trail with new blazes.  We’ll have blaze & sign materials\, but need one or two chainsaws and hand tools (a pick or mattock\, splitting maul\, etc.) to fashion corduroy from deadfalls in the area. It’s almost summer\, so dress accordingly and meet at 10AM at the East Bearhouse Hill Road entrance to Eastwoods.
