SUMMARY:Loop 11 Evaluation - Westwoods at Lower Moose Hill Road
DESCRIPTION:Preview all aspects of trail condition and location throughout Westwoods\, to capture other property information (like invasive plant sitings\, graffiti\, etc.) and unauthorized use of the property. To record this information in the field\, we plan to use the Avenza Map app\, which is available on both the Apple and Android handhelds or tablets paired with Loop 11 trail map.  For the next two months\, this map is available as a free download from the Avenza Store … just search on ‘Westwoods Loop 11’ and you should find it.   If you’d like to add your expertise to our land review\, download the free version of the Avenza app from the Apple or Android store\, load the map\, put on some nice comfortable walking shoes and a warm jacket\, and join our walk in the woods.   Plan to meet us  at the lower Moose Hill Road entrance to Westwoods\, just across from Landon’s Way.  Use street parking on Landon’s Way if it’s too crowded. DESCRIPTION:We  inspected of Loop 10 on the 20th and turned up a laundry list of trail issues\, such as improving drainage and re-routing sections of trail.  We expect to be using some of the dock materials salvaged last year so extra help will be appreciated both loading materials at Spencer’s Creek and hauling them down the Blue Rectangle trail.  Contact Paul to coordinate\, or you can just show up with loppers\, maddock or a pry-bars and pitch in.   Paul will have one ‘just in case’ chainsaw\, as well as heavier tools\, as well as the blaze materials and nails.  Rob will use the trusty blue van for material transport and bring the one-wheel cart for another try.  Dress for cold and blustery conditions\, and meet us at the lower Moose Hill Road entrance at 10AM. DESCRIPTION:GLCT Director Sam Mandel will lead a hike in the Broomstick Ledges area of Northwoods. This is a fairly short hike (3.5 miles)\, but a steep section and lots of walking on\, between\, and over rocks make it somewhat technical\, especially if there is snow or ice. This is a magical area\, particularly in winter. Meet at the Bluff Head parking lot on Route 77. Precipitation may cancel. If unsure\, text: 347.969.4178. \nPlease arrive 10 minutes ahead of the start time. Leashed dogs are permitted unless otherwise stated above. Heavy rain cancels\, and there is no rain date.

SUMMARY:Dudley-Barrows Woods Trail Maintenance at Reenes Way Cul-De-Sac
DESCRIPTION:Lots of blazing to do today … we need to cover the red circle\, which runs ‘from farm to farm’ and also catch the red/white connecting trail\, which doesn’t look like it’s ever been blazed.  We’ll also take a critical look at a re-routing path for the white circle trail that could take it around the southern edge of the pond and not only avoid the steep slope at Reene’s Way\, but also the sunny and overgrown northern route it currently takes.  Paul will bring the blaze materials and nails.  If you’d like to help blaze\, you should bring along a small tool belt with places for nails\, a hammer and a stockpile of blazes.  For trail routing\, good winter cloths and boots is all that’s needed.  If you’d like to help\, plan to meet at the Reene’s Way cut-de-sac at 10AM.
