SUMMARY:Invasive Plant Removal at Westwoods Dunk Rock Road
DESCRIPTION:This will be our first organized invasives work party of the year and we will be learning from it as we go\, but it would great to have WWTC volunteers to help in this effort.  GLCT director Jim Ballentine and Westwoods Property Steward Karen Klugman plan to cut\, treat with herbicide and pull (primarily) Multiflora Rose seedlings along the blue circle trail near where it crosses the red rectangle trail.  If you’d like to help\, please  bring heavy thorn-proof gloves\, waterproof wading boots and clippers or loppers.  We will provide and oversee the application of herbicide.   Meet at the Lower Dunk Rock Road entrance at 10AM\, just across from the Raspberry field parking lot. SUMMARY:Loop 5 Evaluation at Westwoods Dunk Rock Road
DESCRIPTION:Part of a survey walk planned to critically review all aspects of trail condition and location throughout Westwoods\, to capture other property information (like invasive plant sitings\, graffiti\, etc.) and unauthorized use of the property. To record this information in the field\, we plan to use the Avenza Map app\, which is available on both the Apple and Android handhelds or tablets paired with Loop 5 trail map.  For the next two months\, this map is available as a free download from the Avenza Store\, just search on ‘Westwoods Loop 5’ and you should find it (it’s not there just now\, but it will surely be available the first week of April)   If you’d like to add your expertise to our land review\, download the free version of the Avenza app from the Apple or Android store\, load the map\, put on some nice comfortable walking shoes and a warm jacket\, and join our walk in the woods. SUMMARY:Loop 4 Trail Work at Westwoods Three Corners Road
DESCRIPTION:The second of Loop 4 work parties.  Today we plan to reroute a heavily eroded section of the White Circle trail\, which we expect to flag on the earlier workparty.  We plan to add two switchback sections that direct our trail users across more gradual terrain\, and then block the former trail from future use.  We’ll need one or two chainsaws and a loppers\, two medium length bars in case we need to shift rocks\, and a maddock or trenching tool.  Paul will have one saw\, and the blaze materials and nails.  Dress for early spring conditions\, and expect it to be a bit muddy.  Plan to meet at the Three Corners Road Entrance to Westwoods.  When you park\, be careful not to obstruct any of the driveways. SUMMARY:Loop 1 and 2 Stone and Bridge Work at Westwoods Sam Hill Road
DESCRIPTION:On the advice of WWTC member Ellsworth Mathias\, it was decided to rebuild the original stream crossing rather than construct a new bridge.  So today\, using nearby rocks\, we expect to place stepping stones through a muddy section of the trail\, then raise and add support to the current wooden bridge to keep it from being covered/move in high water levels.  We’ll bring a wheelbarrow\, a stone boat\, and a selection of long and short pry-bars\, and some pressure treated materials for adding bridge support.  If you’d like to help\, bring along whatever tools you think could be useful.  We’ll decide at the trailhead what we’ll haul to the worksite.  Please meet us at the Sam Hill Entrance to Westwoods.
