SUMMARY:Audubon Bird Program at Guilford Free Library
DESCRIPTION:Fall migration brings numerous species back to and passing through Connecticut\, in addition to our year-round residents. With so many birds flying about\, it can be difficult to determine which species you are looking at\, especially in non-breeding and juvenile plumages. But with the right tips\, it gets much easier. In this presentation\, CT Audubon Society’s Conservation and Education Coordinator\, Joe Attwater will discuss tips on identifying species coming through this time of year. SUMMARY:Bird Walk at the Paul Trail
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a bird walk on the Paul Trail led by Joe Attwater\, CT Audubon Society’s Conservation and Education Coordinator.  Joe will help participants learn how to identify birds in the field using shape\, size\, and color.  The Paul Trail is an easy walk of about 1.5 miles and has rock outcrops\, overlooking Guilford’s 150-acre Great Harbor Marsh with views of Long Island Sound in the distance.  The entrance is on Old Sachem’s Head Rd.\, across from the Nursery school.  Park up on the curb\, alongside the road.  No dogs\, please. \nPlease meet 10 minutes ahead of the hike start time.  Heavy rain cancels.

DESCRIPTION:Nut Plains property steward Doug Clark has reported three trees that need to be removed from the trails.  One is reported to be a beech\, so we’re curious if this is the beginning of a huge collection of this tree species succumbing to Beech Leaf disease.  Please join us if you have the afternoon free.  We’ll have a saw and protective gear\, but bring along a pair of heavy gloves and any hand tools you feel comfortable using.  Please meet us at the Cindy Lane entrance to Nut Plains Preserve\, just across from the pond. SUMMARY:Kiosk Move and Cleanup at Spencer's Creek
DESCRIPTION:As part of our effort to make the Spencer’s Creek Trails more accessible\, we’re changing the trail entrance to just north of the field.  The tree canopy in this area will help keep the entrance clear\, and not overgrown with poison ivy.  As part of this shift\, we’re moving the kiosk to this area\, and making the new location more presentable to our hikers.  We have much work to do today\, and hope that many come out to help.  We’ll need to have people working our post-hole digger\, people cleaning out a large pile of branches and old wood scraps\, and others figuring out how to lift the existing kiosk out of the ground.  So please bring along garden rakes and shovels\, and perhaps a pry-bar or two.   And of course\, a good set of work gloves and heavy boots.  If you’d like to help us\, please meet at the property on Three Mile Course\, just slightly south of the Medad Stone tavern.  If there’s not enough room to pull off the road\, you can park up the road at the Cox School.
