SUMMARY:Walk n Work Hike - Lower Moose Hill Rd
DESCRIPTION:Our second ‘walk ’n work party’ of the year\, open to all interested in helping but not so interested in the noise and equipment used on many of our work parties. Like all our W n’W outings this trail season\, we’ll be posting our new plastic blazes\, now continuing on Yellow (Circle and Square) trails. A group of Pack 475 Cubscouts joined us last month\, and we’re looking forward to them continuing their support at this and future Walk n’Work events. As with all our walk’n work parties\, this will all be work with hand tools … no chainsaws or heavy equipment are allowed. You’re welcome to join us for just the walking\, but if blazing is your thing\, a small tool belt with places for nails\, a hammer and a stockpile of blazes is recommended. Please meet us at the lower Moose Hill Road entrance to Westwoods\, just across from Landon’s Way. [est 1-1/2 – 2 hours] \nRain or significant snow will usually cancel any of these work parties\, so if you have questions about the schedule\, please feel free to contact me stewardship@guilfordlandtrust.org or Paul Proulx pauljproulx@comcast.net on the morning of each event. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email\, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house. Paul also carries his cell phone (203-687-7756) on these events\, so if you’re late and want people to wait\, give him a call.

SUMMARY:Invasive Plant Removal - Mill Pasture Preserve
DESCRIPTION:GLCT director and Property Steward Melissa Robinson is organizing an effort to begin clearing a potpourri of foreign invasive plants from the Mill Pasture property. Located on the corner of Rt. 1 and Long Hill Road\, this overlooked property is crossed by three branches of the West River\, and infested with oriental bittersweet and honeysuckle\, as well as multiflora rose and autumn olive. Melissa has hacked a path in from Mill Road and is asking for help in this initial effort to control some of these plants. The main goal is to cut and treat the invasive vines that are growing up the trees\, but with a big enough turnout effort can be put into removing other plants as well. If you’d like to help\, please bring along heavy garden tools\, such as loppers and hand saws. We’ll have a chainsaw or two\, but expect most of this work will be performed with hand tools. Heavy gloves and clothing will help protect you from thorns while waterproof boots are needed because of the wet soil. Please join us if you can. Entrance and parking is on Mill Road with parking along the side of the road across from the Tile Shop and the VFW. Raindate: 25th of February @ 1PM. [est 2 – 3 hours] \nRain or significant snow will usually cancel any of these work parties\, so if you have questions about the schedule\, please feel free to contact me stewardship@guilfordlandtrust.org or Paul Proulx pauljproulx@comcast.net on the morning of each event. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email\, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house. SUMMARY:Trail Clearing at Kampmeyer - Laurel Hollow Road
DESCRIPTION:We’ve received a report of a large tree down over a section trail about as distant from our trail head as possible. So we’ll be hiking in to clear this tree\, and intend on using this opportunity to check out as many trails as we can in the process. A backup saw would be welcomed\, and extra hands to share the carrying are valuable too. As always\, there will be some cleanup work\, so if you’r not a sawyer\, bring along your loppers or tools you’re comfortable using. Dress warmly\, with gloves and comfortable shoes. Please meet us at the Laural Hollow cul-de-sac entrance @ 10AM\, just off West Lake Avenue. [est 2 – 2 -1/2 hours] \nRain or significant snow will usually cancel any of these work parties\, so if you have questions about the schedule\, please feel free to contact me stewardship@guilfordlandtrust.org or Paul Proulx pauljproulx@comcast.net on the morning of each event. SUMMARY:Trail Blazing at Lower Moose Hill Road
DESCRIPTION:Members of Cub Scout Pack 475 (and their parents) will be joining us to continue the installation of our new plastic blazes in the Westwoods Trails network. And while the actual trail we plan to blaze is dependent on progress earlier in the month\, we guess we’ll be concentrating on the Blue Rectangle\, the primary East/West trail which connects with Dunk Rock Road. All are welcome to participate in this work party … you don’t need to be a Scout. We recommend equipping yourself with a small tool belt with places for nails\, a hammer and a stockpile of blazes\, but a small backpack works okay too. Dress warmly\, wear comfortable shoes\, and bring along some water and a snack if you don’t think you can hold out until lunchtime. Please meet us at the lower Moose Hill Road entrance to Westwoods\, just across from Landon’s Way. The lot can get filled on Saturday mornings\, so please use street parking on Landon’s Way if it’s too crowded.
