SUMMARY:Guided Hike at Westwoods Lost Lake Loop
DESCRIPTION:Join GLCT board members Claudia Bartlett (203-415-4195)\, and Janet Ainsworth\, along with Mary Anne Hardy for a family friendly hike on National Trails Day. We will take white circle leading to beautiful Lost Lake Vista\, and will then return on the orange and white circle trails to the parking area. Moderate hike with some occasional ups and downs with rocky areas. An option to continue with Mary Anne Hardy on a longer loop past the lake (roughly 5 miles total)\, following the orange and yellow trails. This section includes some rocky scrambling both up & down. No dogs please. Meet at the Sam Hill trailhead off of 146.

SUMMARY:Trail Post Installation at Renee's Way
DESCRIPTION:Continuation of the installation of the trail posts constructed by Dave Hackett and his students … only we’ll be getting help from them on this work party as we install four posts at the trail entrances on Reene’s Way.  While Dave and his students will be leading this effort\, additional help is appreciated to excavate the post holes and installing their handiwork.  Gloves and workbooks are needed and if you have any specialized post hole diggers or shovels\, please bring them along.  If time allows\, we also plan to head over to the white trail just west of the Barrows farm to reset several bridges on better footings … hopefully\, we have both the time and ambition to get this all accomplished\,  Meet us at the cul-de-sac at the end of Renee’s Way. SUMMARY:Nut Plains Woods Guided Hike
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a leisurely two-mile saunter on the beautiful white-blazed trail in Guilford’s Nut Plains Woods. We’ll meet on Sunday\, June 5 at 1:00 pm at the Cindy Lane trailhead (between 48 and 60 Cindy Lane)\, walk the white trail to where it joins with the blue-blazed Menunkatuck trail\, continue on the white trail where it leaves the blue trail\, and follow the white trail past wetlands and along a ridge back to the trailhead. Heavy rain cancels. Co-leaders are GLCT members Doug Clark (voice & text: 443-852-2439) and Janet Ainsworth.

SUMMARY:Plankwalk Maintenance and Invasive Rose Removal
DESCRIPTION:Our May work party didn’t get this job completed so we’re continuing that effort\, now concentrating on the southern end of the plank walk.  Identified are several sections where piling are sinking\, so we expect to be lifting planks and adding support to the pilings.  if we have enough people\, we also hope to start pulling invasive rose plants from the sides of the walk … an infestation recently found\, and we’d like to remove this unwanted growth before it ‘jumps the great swamp’ and establishes itself in the heart of Westwoods.  We’ll have the basic tools and materials for rebuilding sections of the plank walk\, but extra hammers and prybars will be useful\, so please bring them along.  If you’d like to help with the rose (which we’re trying to pull out rather than cut)\, please thick gloves and a good pair of boots to keep your feet dry.  Please meet us at the Peddlers Road trail entrance @ 10AM.   [est 2-1/2  – 3 hours]
