A Half Century of Land Conservation

Fifty years ago, Guilford’s coastline was being degraded. With no laws to prevent it, people were filling in and building on salt marshes. So, in 1965, a group of Guilford residents formed an all-volunteer land trust and accepted a small piece of salt marsh as a donation. With these prescient Guilford residents in mind, and 3,000 acres preserved to date, GLCT looks to celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2015.

Without GLCT’s sustained and focused efforts over five decades, the Guilford of today would look like a much different place. We can all be incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together. I encourage you to celebrate with us next year! We are planning a fun outdoor celebration coinciding with our annual meeting on June 6th. Please save the date.

With your ongoing support, we can continue protecting special places. In honor of our 50th, we will raise awareness about our work in Guilford and increase our membership by reaching out to new families. We hope that you will help us in these efforts by encouraging friends who appreciate Guilford’s natural beauty and trails and are not currently GLCT members to join on our website.

Thank you for renewing your support and investing in the scenic character of Guilford. We look forward to celebrating with you in 2015!
