Installing Plastic Sheeting for Occultation at Spencer’s Creek
Today we will be laying down sheets of plastic in the meadow at Spencer Creek. This sheeting will remain in place for two or more months and is intended to suffocate and kill the mugwort rhizomes which have taken over the front portion of the field. We invite you to come and help us lay and secure the plastic sheets this Sunday. It’s a multi person job, especially if there’s a little wind, and many concrete blocks and wood timbers need to be placed to secure the sheeting. Good gloves and work boots are all that you’ll need to bring. Please meet us at the property on Three Mile Course, just slightly south of the Medad Stone tavern. If there’s not enough room to pull off the road, you can park up the road at the Cox School. [est 2 to 3 hours]
Heavy rain will usually cancel any of these work parties, so if you have questions about the schedule, please feel free to contact me stewardship@guilfordlandtrust.org or Paul Proulx pauljproulx@comcast.net on the morning of each event. We’ll also announce cancellations or schedule changes by email, so it’s a good idea to check your mail before you leave the house. Paul also carries his cell phone (203-687-7756) on these events, so if you’re late and want people to wait, give him a call.
