If you enjoy Guilford’s open spaces, then you are a beneficiary of the work of Carolie Evans. Carolie has long served on the GLCT Board, including as its President, as well as on the Town of Guilford’s Land Acquisition Commission. Her influence on Guilford can be measured in acres – thousands of them. GLCT has chosen to honor Carolie’s decades of conservation work with the creation of the Carolie Evans Stewardship Endowment. This Endowment is a dedicated fund supporting the protection of our lands in the face of tomorrow’s challenges. Substantial stewardship projects such as installing bridges, removing abundant invasives, remediating debris and damages, and protecting our legal rights are important but costly aspects of caring for our land in perpetuity. With your help, we will be prepared.

On October 9th, a group of 100 of Carolie’s friends,  family, and biggest fans gathered to surprise and thank her for her decades-long commitment to open space. Carolie was honored to learn that, by that date, more than $14,000 had been raised by these close friends to help launch the fund. In addition, GLCT has contributed $70,000 from our general fund toward the Endowment and we invite you to dedicate this year’s annual dues and gifts toward this effort. Please write “endowment” in the memo line of your check or make a note if you give through our website. The Carolie Evans Stewardship Endowment Fund is not a land acquisition account, nor a fund to cover our modest annual operating budget. As we have for 45 years, we will continue to leverage our membership dollars, gifts, and grant funds into land purchases. There are significant opportunities on the horizon and when a property comes under contract, you will be the first to know.

My sincere thanks for your support,

– Sarah Williams, President
