Suggested seasonal walk.
Enjoy breathtaking wildflowers from June until the first frosts at the Spencer Creek Preserve on Three Mile Course, and view an ongoing forest and field restoration project with your family.
Enter the Preserve at the kiosk and proceed along the trail that is partially marked with red blazes. Pass a small pond that sometimes is brackish because of its connection to Spencer Creek and high tides. GLCT is in the process of removing invasive species around the pond and opening it up for viewing.
The trail continues around just outside the field and through an old farm road between stone walls. Here you will find some boardwalk that moves with the tide on occasion.
Next, enjoy our native grass and flower restoration in the field.
Coreopsis and Black-eyed Susans come alive in June. Cross the field to an area of open woods that was cleared of invasives and is being maintained through annual work of Guilford Yacht Club members.
Sit a while on the bench recently donated in memory of Chuck and Mary Worrilow. From this spot, take in the wonderful view of the conjoining of the West River and Spencer Creek.
From here many marsh and shore birds are visible. Next, proceed along the red-blazed trail as it turns and starts to return, via the high ground, through fairly open forest and over classic New England pink granite.
How to get there:
Park along Three Mile Course or at Cox school.
