In 2009, the Town of Guilford purchased the East River Preserve which contains 583 acres of publicly accessible open space.
Currently, the East River Preserve Management Planning Committee is working to develop a management plan for the property. This management plan will be the guiding document for future use of the land, including the most appropriate trail layout and access to the East River.
Until formal accesses are designed, the public can park along Clapboard Hill Road, just opposite the riding school at a pull off and on Sullivan Drive, before entering the gate to the Town’s Brush and Leaf Compost area. Another small parking area is available on the right side of Duck Hole Road.
The unimproved East Bearhouse Hill Road is an existing passage that can also be used as a trail.
This property is currently managed by the Town of Guilford.
